Sweet Shutter Love in Africa

I took this shot while in Africa recently,
we were out on Safari at dusk and the lighting was just magical.

Life is lovely

Life is lovely....

... because if i dare to dream
of what might be possible
it very well may come true

.... because if i give more than take
i embrace a higher, deeper
and much more expansive future

.... because hope rises like a balloon
filling the heart with a glorious gaiety
at the dawning of each new day

Life is indeed lovely when we
capture, celebrate and cherish the everyday
moments that really make life
so very worthwhile.

I was just thinking ...

I was just thinking how majestic and otherworldly a thunderstorm really is. It's currently thunder storming here....lightening is streaking across the sky and thunder is echoing in the distance. This kind of weather always make you feel like you want to snuggle down and stay safe indoors. As a kid I use to think that God must be shaken 'Heaven and Earth' as he romped around upstairs. I am still in awe of these spectacular displays .... that such ferocity and intensity comes from the heavens in spectacular displays of beauty and fierceness. Nature has both a raw beauty and serene antiquity to it... it is an ancient glory and splendour that defies belief. Relentless, resounding and magnificent....kind of reminds me of what God is like - truly awe inspiring and ethereal. Love that we get to catch a glimpse of His glory every now and then.

I was just thinking that opportunity is kind of like a door that must be opened. I want my kids to see impossibilities as possibilities...that sometimes opportunity has to be fought for and won....that opportunity while a gift must be unwrapped to be fully appreciated. I took this photo two weeks ago and it speaks to me of opportunity, something I have been discussing with my kids of late. Opportunity comes to us all but we have to open the door and walk though it to fully embrace what lies behind it. What do you see? ... a closed door or one to be opened? When the door is shut do you feel like it would be amiss of you to go further or do you knock upon that door with boldness and audacity? I have been teaching my kids that sometimes life is about pushing through rather than sitting back. That life is waiting for us to enter in, open up and embrace all that we are meant to be.... yes sometimes that requires us to knock so the door can be opened for us..... and when it is...wow - opportunity, purpose and destiny awaits. So when you are faced with a shut door, I would encourage you to knock and find out what awaits you. Open it....push through and step up .....you just never know what opportunity is waiting for you!

Knock and the door shall be opened....seek and you shall find!

Stylish Blogger Award

I was just sitting here wondering what to post about, seeings I am feeling under the weather and somewhat unwell when I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I had been nominated as a recipient of the 'Stylish Blogger Award' by Shanda over at 'A Pause on the Path'.

Funny thing is ... it really did cheer me up...... I felt a few rays of sunshine come my way on this rather dreary day as I sit curled up on the couch coughing intermittently and going through a box of tissues at an alarming rate. Just knowing that there was another blogger out there in the blogosphere who appreciated my blog and was happy to let others know about it was kind of neat. Thank you Shanda for sending it 'Down Under'. While this is not a red carpet moment it certainly feels nice to have your work, thoughts and musings valued. Such a lovely way to encourage other bloggers, so if the 'Stylish Blogger Award' comes your way.... smile and send the sunshine on its way.

The Rules:

1. Say seven interesting, amusing, wild or crazy things about yourself.
2. Encourage some fabulous bloggers by passing the award on (link award back to the awardee's blog)
3. Contact the bloggers you have nominated and let them know!

So...seven things about me from the most recent to things some time ago ...

1. Visited Uganda as a volunteer assisting with orphaned and abandoned babies in Uganda.

2. Biked to Claude Monet's garden in Giverny, Paris and got lost a long the way.

3. Experienced an old fashioned horse and carriage ride in Brussels, Belgium.

4. Saw all the highlights of London in 24 hours including the show Mama Mia!

5. Escaped being chased by ravenous monkeys at the monkey forest in Ubud, Bali.

6. Survived a bank hold up by a guy waving around a sawn-off shot gun!

7. Performed in a 'King's Kids' performing arts team during the Seoul Olympics as a kid.
xx

And here are some fabulous blogs I am loving right now, deserving of a little blog award....in no particular order -

Inspire me - Hill

Today Hill from Capturing Motherhood
shares from her heart
about the ups and downs of life
and how she is finding significance in her Saviour.
Her faith has kept her strong
through some trying situations with her little man.
Hill is looking forward ... she is determined
to not let the little moments of life slip by.
You know the ones that distract you
from whatever it was that you were on your way to do!
She blogs to capture the minute simple moments,

moments she wants to cherish for a lifetime.

i've read it plenty of times.
i even have it underlined in my Bible.
but not too long ago, this verse hit me.
and i mean really, really hit me.

Everyone who falls on that stone (Christ)
will be broken to pieces,
but he on whom it falls will be crushed.
Luke 20:18

i am so broken.
and i am so grateful.
oh, so grateful for that brokenness.
or that need for a Saviour.
for that need for Christ.
to know Him.
personally.
i am grateful to have fallen on Him.
to be broken to pieces.
rather than being crushed.

without Christ, my life would be
plain and simple:
awful.
just awful.

i am in such a vulnerable spot.
i have been learning over the past two years
that nothing is up to me.
nothing.
and my little L
(click here for more info on him + us)
reminds me of that day after day after day.
we give him so much love and
work with him constantly
and yet his progress is not at all up to us.
He is the one who strings it all together.

Moses said to the LORD,
“Pardon your servant, Lord.
I have never been eloquent,
neither in the past
nor since you have spoken to your servant.
I am slow of speech and tongue.”
The LORD said to him,
“Who gave human beings their mouths?
Who makes them deaf or mute?
Who gives them sight or makes them blind?
Is it not I, the LORD?
Now go; I will help you speak and
will teach you what to say.”
Exodus 4:10-12

and you know what?
i like it here.
i like that i can't do anything on my own.
i like that i can't go on at this
breakneck pace all by my lonesome.
going on without Him carrying me.
there is so much more than this.
than this life.

it's a good thing, too
because i wouldn't want to.
i wouldn't want to do all of this
if it weren't for something bigger.
something bigger than this life.
if it weren't for Him orchestrating
this moment and the next and the next one after that.
and for Him being glorified in all the moments in between.

We are hard pressed on every side,
but not crushed;
perplexed, but not in despair;
persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed.
We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
2 Corinthians 4:8-10

Inspire me - 'Sole Hope'

destined, devoted, daring

Today I am bringing you an update about the goings on over at 'Sole Hope'.

I recently blogged about this amazing cause and the woman behind the project, a girl with a big heart and expansive dreams to match. For my recent article about Asher please click the following link - 'Inspire me' - Asher Collie. Things have been humming over at Sole Hope this week. They have been working with homeless and rescue shelters around the U.S as they continue to expand their shoe making business in order to change the lives of impoverished and forgotten communities around the world.

With the purchase of these cute baby shoes below, lives are being changed. Proceeds support and protect the little feet of children in Africa and help an adult rise above poverty. Shoes will be available online very soon.

Sole Hope Mission - to provide HOPE for widows, orphans and others in impoverished and forgotten communities around the world through the trade of shoemaking.

Docica magazines most recent issue is out now and a must read if you want to be inspired by everyday girls bringing hope, purpose and destiny to their sphere of the world. In it you will find more about the Sole Hope project, Nelson Mandela and our lovely earrings (they also made it into last weeks issue - see past issues). So very exciting!

Nature shots with the Samsung WB550

Love a beautiful view... especially feeling like your on top of the world!

I have really been enjoying my camera of late and taking some varied nature shots. Am contemplating maybe taking a photography course, when I can find some time!!

So this is a very unusual tree and I have no idea what it is actually called!

Autumn in Australia ... but you wouldn't know it with the abundance of gorgeous flowers still in bloom. Love living where it never gets too cold.

Found this bee busily humming around the flower but couldn't get close enough to get a really good shot. Wish I had a camera with a really good zoom. I think I took a zillion shots just trying to get up close and personal with the bee!

Okay that's enough randomness from me!
