Going the distance

Five minute friday is all about writing for just five minutes.

 Here’s how to play along:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat for pure unedited love of the written word.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in {you can grab the button in my right side bar}
3. Go leave some comment props for the five minute artist who linked up before you.

OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes for the prompt:

On Distance

So here I go....

Personally I am not a fan of traveling long distances..., yesterday I packed the kids up in the car to visit a friend  who lives two hours away. A drive so worth going the distance. The problem was that today I was traveling tired ... so, we had ourselves a merry little adventure. We missed a turn off which set us back about 15 mins by the time we finally worked out how to get back across the highway. Then, some how we missed the short cut and found ourselves driving the long way around and through a quaint little coastal town. I think I added 50 minutes to our trip. Hhmmm ... What I have learnt from this little life lesson is that to be fully alert for the unexpected one must be well prepared (in my case I should have gone to bed earlier the night before) ... for those who know me they may find this story amusing, knowing that I pride myself on my keen spatial awareness and good sense of direction (I even enjoy the challenge of reading a map!!) Well, yesterday I got so lost it threw me. Let me conclude with this little thought 'If we want to go the distance in life we must be prepared for the journey ... fully awake and alert ... and ready for anything!'

If you met me

Ahh ... when finally we meet, we will sit in the sun and and laugh a ton and you'll know straight away that I like to have fun. We will talk about life and hobbies and kids. We'll laugh about mess ups and all of life's hiccups. I will ask of your passions and where you have been. We will share from our hearts about all that we've seen. You will learn I like chocolate, children and chai ... Oh and, that I really love hot spicy thai.

My life imperfectus

My life is imperfectus, meaning unfinished, incomplete and ongoing.
It is unfinished business and I'm okay with that. I love my very imperfect self, we have come a very long way.

(Imperfect" comes from the Latin imperfectus "unfinished",[2] because the imperfect expresses an ongoing, uncompleted action. Source)

The fairytale ended abruptly.
Life was thrown into a gigantic chaotic mess some years back. My marriage ended dramatically in heartbreak, anguish and utter desolation after just fifteen years of marriage. It broke my heart. I had worked very hard at perfection, striving towards being a perfect wife, mother, confidante and friend. Yet in the end I was left picking up the ruins of a less than perfect marriage and less than perfect life.

For so long
I had worked hard at being the very best at whatever I put my hand to. I hung the washing with flair, shopped with precision, ensured every meal was nutritionally balanced, ironed with gusto and vacuumed wholeheartedly. I organised schedules, planned meals, cleaned house, implemented a budget, valued efficiency, loved order and denounced uncleanliness. I juggled my balls like a pro (The circus would have been impressed!) ... and then one very ordinary day it all came crashing down. My marriage was over just like that.

Suddenly I was a single Mum.
I was out of options and at the end of the road. Emotional trauma and spiritual upheaval ensued. This was not meant to happen to me! Questions echoed from deep within, rolling in like the surging sea. Self doubt loomed large and fierce. The emptiness shocked me. I could hardly breathe.

And then
For the sake of working at making a living, I forgot to LIVE - really truly live. I put the art of living on standby. I forgot how to laugh with my kids, marvel at the clouds floating across the sky, missed out on dancing in the rain, jumping in puddles and singing at the top of my lungs. Somewhere along the way I lost myself. Passion died. I lost the essence of me.
Some how

Love won out in the end. That deep unending selfless Mumma bear love for my children kept me hopeful, focused and intentional. It helped me get up in the morning, face the world and step beyond myself. A greater more expansive and unconditional love graciously encompassed me, tenderly drew me near and safely anchored my heart and my soul. Sweet redemptive truth took hold, filling and overflowing the empty places within ... on and on it flowed ... more than I could ask for. More than I could ever imagine ... and more than enough.
"He is able to do immeasurably MORE than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us." Ephesians 3:20

A smile, a laugh and a word from the heart

This is my first time participating in the Gypsy Mamas five minute word dash. Todays theme is "Favourite things'. Only five minutes to write....this will be fun.
So here are the rules:
1. Write for only five minutes. Don’t edit. Don’t over think. Don’t stifle your creativity.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Go leave some comment love for the five minuter
who linked up before you.
here we go.......
My favourite things are smiles and laughter and words straight from the heart. A smile lights up a room and brings a warm and inviting embrace. It says I am content and friendly and kind, its a welcome without words. Laughter is good for the soul....a good ole belly laugh frees the heart, unleashes the mind and sets the soul to soaring. Words can lavish out love and are sweet, exquisite and delightful....a kind word can blossom and bloom amongst the thickest of weeds and just like the tiniest of seeds can bury itself deep in the heart to slowly grow with abundance and grace. Yes I really do love beautiful words, a cheeky grin and the rumble of laughter that echoes from within.

wow, not as easy as one might think!...... so why don't you have a go too.

Age is not important unless you are a cheese

'Age is not important unless you are a cheese.'

I love this quote by Helen Hayes. Just wish it was true. Funny how as you get older, age becomes even more important, especially if you are a woman.

I'm not quite as young these days as I would like to imagine, my jeans are tighter than usual, my fitness is somewhat lacking and my skin is less than perfect, (wrinkle wrinkle go away...come again another day). Life just creeps up on you which is so very apparent when friends you haven't seen for awhile marvel at how your kids have grown, I marvel too...at how I even got here!!!!!. Where does the time go? I firmly believe that life is a little bit like a cheese platter - it contains a varied assortment of yummy delicacies to choose from. Each delicacy bringing its own taste, flavour and delicate texture. You just have to decide which delicacy you want to partake of first. (But please no mottley cheese for me - I don't like the blue bits.) The rest of the platter is still available for your consumption and tasting.

The cheese platter brings the anticipation of a delightful evening...... a relaxing moment with friends ... the beginning of a festive evening - the smell of a bbq fills the air, bubbling conversation, soft laughter and lots of fun - oh so lovely. Life is indeed a wonderful event. If I had to decide what cheese I was, I'd have to say a camembert. Its a little bit firm on the outside but soft in the middle. Although depending on the temperature a camembert can be a bit gooey ..... hhmmmm. I find myself having matured some what by the journey of life but recognise there are still a few holes. Thankfully I still have a few years of maturing to go...... remember the thirties is now the NEW twenties. Therefore I am determined to taste away and enjoy the platter that I have been served.

This is an older post....but still as true today as back then :|
